Office Infestation

February 21st, 2008

Over the past month, the office where I work has been a Disease Hive. Today, the person with the cube office next to me thinks that she has pneumonia, and is leaving “right after the doctor appointment” late this afternoon.

Why on earth do people come to work when they are that sick? Seriously! YOUR WORK IS NOT THAT IMPORTANT. You don’t work as well when you’re sick, and if you get the whole dang office sick that doesn’t help anybody. I can’t stand it. I’m not germophobe but I’m pretty sure I could start washing my hands obsessively here soon.

    1. I guess some people are really…dedicated to their craft? I mean, how could the populance survive without in-store TV networks and clipshows of ultraserialized sci-dramas??!?!

    2. Some sick policies are flawed in that they encourage employees to come to work sick by limiting allowed sick days. My last job did that. If you were sick and didn’t have vacation time to use, you didn’t get paid and you may even be written up. I worked for two weeks with pneumonia to avoid punishment.

FedEx also discourages using sick time by paying each year for any unused sick time. I was also told that using sick time counts against me in my annual review, which, determines the amount of my raise for that year.
